A temporary resident permit is a document issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). A temporary resident permit allows an inadmissible individual to legally travel to Canada.
Temporary Resident Permit Canada
A Temporary Resident Permit allows an individual to be admitted into Canada when they are considered inadmissible. Almost any conviction, minor or otherwise, can result in you being considered inadmissible. Also, a Temporary Resident Permit can also be cancelled at any time and you may be subject to a removal order or admissibility hearing.
Temporary Resident Permit Application
The Temporary Resident Permit application is to be pursued if fewer than five (5) years have passed since the termination of the imposed sentence.
A Temporary Resident Permit application can be difficult, and there is no guarantee that an individual will be issued a Temporary Resident Permit. With a Temporary Resident Permit application, you must show that your need to enter or remain in the country offsets any health or safety risks to Canada.
Temporary Resident Permit Fee
There is a Temporary Resident Permit application fee of $200 CAD that covers the processing costs of your Temporary Resident Permit. This Temporary Resident Permit fee is non-refundable, regardless of the decision made on your Temporary Resident Permit application.
Temporary Resident Permit Validity
Temporary Resident Permit validity is the length of time the Temporary Resident Permit holder can stay in Canada. Temporary Resident Permit validity may range from one day to three years.
Temporary Resident Permit Extension
A Temporary Resident Permit may be extended or cancelled by an officer. If your Temporary Resident Permit expires, you must apply for a new permit (and, in this case, it will be considered a “break in continuity”).
It is recommended that anyone who may require a Temporary Resident Permit extension apply for it at least 30 days before the Temporary Resident Permit validity period passes. According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Temporary Resident Permit extensions cannot be refused if the only reason for the refusal is to preclude the person from becoming eligible to apply for the permanent residence in the permit holder class.
Temporary Resident Permit Holder
A Temporary Resident Permit holder has to demonstrate good behaviour throughout their visit to Canada. A Temporary Resident Permit holder can have their permit withdrawn at any time throughout their visit, if they show any reason for withdrawal or removal.
Temporary Resident Permit holders will be issued their Temporary Resident Permit for a specified period. In most cases, this period is short, and you will be required to either leave Canada before your Temporary Resident Permit expires, or apply for a new Temporary Resident Permit before your current permit expires. Once you leave Canada, the Temporary Resident Permit is no longer valid unless authorization specific to your re-entry is provided, which is a very rare occurrence.
Temporary Resident Permit Cancellation
A Temporary Resident permit may be cancelled at any time. When the Temporary Resident Permit holder leaves Canada, the permit is deemed cancelled, unless special authorization for re-entry has been recorded on it.
When the Temporary Resident Permit has expired or been cancelled, the permit holder must leave Canada, or face deportation.
Getting a Temporary Resident Permit to travel to Canada with a criminal record is a lengthy process that must begin well in advance of travelling.
